preparing for winter

Standing and squealing out the front window this morning, Elliott alerted us to this cute scavenger who, along with four buddies, demolished all of our front porch pumpkins. One of the pumpkin tops was actually chewed clean off and when I went out to shoot photos, the squirrel family barely even acknowledged me. Babies to feed. Cold days ahead.

Yesterday I finished a winter hat for my oldest baby. He picked the yarn from my stash and proudly wore the finished product all day. I have spent most of my knitting years working in rectangles (read: scarves). Now, I am hooked on hats. It went so much faster than a scarf, with pretty cute results. I already have another one going . . . more sweet heads to keep warm.
