When Liam was four, he would make us laugh out loud almost daily with the hilarious things he'd say. Like this and this. A comment he made this weekend reminded me of these earlier days.

Driving along the river a couple blocks from our house, I noticed two trees with lower trunks that had been gnawed on. The bark was gone and the marks on the trunk looked fresh.

"Looks like the beavers have been eating the trees," I said.

Liam quickly turned to look out the window.

"There are beavers around here?" he asked suspiciously.

"I guess so," I said. "I can't think of any other animal that would eat a tree that way."

"Well," he said. "I think there are some crazy people who might."
