I am captivated by this photo I took over the weekend of my three-year-old son engrossed in the music of three women playing dolcimer at a Fiber Festival in Indiana. What gets me is how sweetly he is holding the hand of my dear friend Ann's nine-year-old daughter. It's one thing to visit a long-time friend that you love - to reconnect over fabric and gardening, recipes and parenting, shared history and imagined futures, the battles that do us in and the surprises that leave us speechless, and, of course, the world's best cookies. It's just icing on the cake to have my kids adore and be adored by hers.
There is no quote, no sum up that can adequately capture the value of real friendship. Or the joy that comes in seeing your kids caught up in its magic. It's just a beautiful thing.
